Woki Masssaquoi
I am an interdisciplinary artist from the Bronx, NY, with Sierra Leonean roots. My journey as a self-taught photographer began in 2008 when my father gifted me my first compact camera. After reconsidering a move to California, I interned as an assistant fashion stylist and studied the Meisner technique with Melvin Williams, performing at the Producers Club in NYC with Theatre for A New Generation. As a dancer, I toured nationally and internationally with Grammy nominee Awa Sangho. My painting has been exhibited with #DayOnesArt at Flux Factory in Queens, NYC.
Since focusing on photography in 2015, my work has been featured in Sweet July Magazine, and I recently had the honor of photographing the first Sierra Leone Diaspora Investment Conference.
I am committed to offering visual storytelling of the journey and achievements of African people, and our descendants through street photography, portraiture, documentary, and conceptual work
